If you’re planning to visit a loved one at Groote Schuur Hospital, it’s important to check the visiting times for each ward. The hospital may change these hours if needed, so always stay updated. Here’s what you should expect:
Groote Schuur Hospital Visiting Hours
General Wards:
You can visit during the following times:
- 14:00 – 16:00
- 19:00 – 20:00
Emergency Wards / Trauma Unit:
If you’re visiting someone in the Emergency or Trauma Unit, the hours are:
- 15:00 – 16:00
- 19:00 – 20:00
Intensive Care Unit (ICU):
For ICU, the visiting times are more specific. You will be able to visit:
- 11:00 – 12:00
- 15:00 – 16:00
- 19:00 – 20:00
Maternity Wards:
If you’re visiting someone in the Maternity Ward, the hours are:
- 15:00 – 16:30
- 19:00 – 20:00
Note that only the father of the baby, one significant other, and siblings over 2 years old are allowed to visit in this ward.
Labour Ward:
Only one person can accompany a birthing mother. After the birth, the patient’s mother may join as a second visitor.
Neonatal Unit:
If you’re visiting the Neonatal Unit, only the parents and grandparents are allowed, with a maximum of two visitors at a time. You can visit the baby anytime until 21:00 unless the baby is ill, in which case parents have 24-hour access.
Psychiatry:
- Wards C22, C23: No visits unless you have pre-arranged with the Sister-in-Charge.
- Ward G22: Visiting hours are from 19:00 – 20:00.
Open Visiting Hours:
If you’re visiting stroke, oncology, acute spinal cord injury (ASCI) patients, or critically ill patients (by prior arrangement), you can visit between 09:00 – 20:00.
